Idea [I] Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

Have installed Reperion on Mio and update to server goes well with GPRS, i can send foto and do force update.

But have problems with the GPS signal.
Installed VisualGPSce software and it says that the build-in gps receiver is on COM2:\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPS_HWCOM because i use this one also with TomTom.

When i use the GPS configuration tool from Windows Mobile, i select COM2 to use for all programa and set the access on automatic as described.

Then i select in the Reperion client software for COM2 and it does not find any satellite.

Has anyone experience with this device ?

editors note : people using Mio A701 / Mio A501 with internal GPS should download GPS2Blue | Set GPS comport in GPS2Blue to COM4 - 56700 baud, and press ON. Connect Reperion and TomTom to COM4 and all will be well.

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hello,

I also use the Mio A701 and it works fine.

The comport that you must use can be found by going to: Settings/System. Overthere you find an icon for GPS setup. When you select this, a window opens that shows wat com port should be used for connecting to with GPS software like Reperion (by default is is com 4). However the Reperion client doesn't handle this integrated GPS properly yet. To overcome this I use a program called GPS2Blue and start this proram before I start the Reperion client.

    This works just fine.

    Hope this gets you going!

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

I have installed GPS2Blue and started with COM2 and speed 57600 baud.

But Reperion does not work at all.

Do i have to install also the HW VSP software for virtual com ports ?
This is also available on the GPS2Blue website.

    Hi Biker4U,

I think it is better to keep the original settings on the Mio since I do not know what Com port 2 is doing (i think it is the hardware port for it and that should not be used by applications. Can you set it back to com 4?

I have Gps2Blue set to com4 just as in the settings in the settings part of the pda.The speed I have the same as you.

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hi all,

     I am using a MIO A701 too.

But I disabled com4 because it is draining a lot all the battery ( with sif ).

So I use hw port com2.

It work very well with noniGpsPlot / tomtom / google maps / beeline GPS / navigator2 and so on.

I really don't understand why Reperion is not working with com2.

The instant fix is not important for me. Yes, I can wait 30 seconds before to move... Cool

But a powerfull battery is for me the most important feature when you are in the middle of the forest.

So if someone know how to do with reperion ( I use the last version ) without artifact (gps2blue) let me know

     Thanks

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hi !

    • what version Reperion are you using?
    • please try 1.52.5 and set it to com2
    • if you use com2 on your MioA701 , can you set the GPS to hardware port2 and still split ?

I'm not sure if we can support your situation, as it seems rare. How did you technically disable things (what things Big Smile ? Please send as much info as possible :)

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

Thank you for so quick responding.

This is strange but Reperion is now working on com2

I have installed gps2blue but don't use it since it is pda phone.

But where can I find V 1.52.5 ? is this beta version ?

I only found the one I use 1.52 ( downloaded today afternoon)

Can't remember for now how I have disabled sif, since this was 7 month ago.

I will search and let you know.

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hey congratulations :)

Good to hear Reperion is working on your device. Don't change a thing :)

If you still like to play and need to run multilple apps simultaneously, try the Mio A701 and MioA501 , Reperion_for_integrated_gps , you can

download it at http://www.reperion.com/newclient (should be 1.0.0.6 after installation

Check back often at that link. But anyway, it works, so why touch it :)

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hi Mike

    After some try :

    Reperion_for_integrated_gps :
No way for me because it detect com4, and I disabled GID. It seem impossible to change the port.

Also, I have strange behavior with  V 1.52

the counter in the top left currently count down to 0 but when arrived, it don't stop and connect for sending the coordinates.

It continuously count, in negative way, ie : -1, -2, -3 and so on...

Do you have an idea about that ?

PS: I am ready for testing beta version if you want.

re PS : I saw some of your trip, are you a professionnal pilot ?

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hi HUGGPS,

I'm a gliderpilot first, then a recreational powered pilot. Never flew commercial. That's if you don't count certified VR flights in a sim. Managed to land a A320 within the limits at first go :) But hey, no wind settings, landing configuration explained and pointed out by instructor.... flare indication.. and the absolute confidence of surviving VR... helped a lot !!

I wonder what would have happened if I'd asked if they could hellp me program and execute an autoland on the A/P , that's more safe maybe.

    -------

I just recorded my flights  from my economy seat in the plane. No problem, at times, 12 sats fixed. Really cool to use stuff like WinPilot, SeeYou and a scanner when onboard.

Anyway, if Reperion worked once in good order, we should be able to get it going again. The counter going subzero might be overcome by a corny reset. Does it ?

The bluetooth module sometimes freezes when you walk out of range of your GPS receiver, but you have it built in, so...

Hard nut to crack, can't you just be a Windows Obeying User and use GID ?

Sorry that was someone else at the keyboard, we will make this thread as long as it needs to be !!

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hi Mike

Gliders... Hope this will be my next fly Stick out tongue never try it yet, but I really want to do. Certainly the most free felling (with a 60000 feets trip in a Rafale Cool)

I fly sometime on HR200. And like you I tried level D simulators, a very great experience.

I did some flights on Falcon 50, falcon 900, ERJ 145, Dash 8, Fokker 100 ( I like really this one). Already wanted to fly the 320, you're luky man.

I planed also doing some acrobatics in a zlin 326.

    About Reperion.

It never run correctly on my A701, and the counter problem was not solved by a reset.

GID is definitively out for me, too much power consuming. Sorry WOU is not for me.Confused

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

    Hi Mike

    Today I got an error

    here it is :

    findYouSm.exe

    ObjectDisposedExeption

    à System.Windows.Form.Control.InvokeHelper()

    à SerialNET.Port.m_dispatch_func()

    that's all

I hope this can help you.

The only problem is the subzero counter and subsequently Reperion can't send anything to the server.

The Force Update option is working perfectly.

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

The MIOA701 has a very special place with us. We even created a specialized version for it, which uses the GID. The GID implementation in the MioA701 is of a sort that we cannot support the MioA701 without using the GID.

The MioA501 wants to use the GID too, but is also capable of handling our serial port communication based on Franson's Serial Tools.

Reperion works out of the Box with 95% of all devices, some need a special version, like the MioA701. But supporting the MioA701 in a non-GID situation would cost us too much time, sorry for that.

Wish I had better news. Reperion WILL work on MioA701 with GID enabled.

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

But there is no problem with the GPS part

Reperion work fine with the com2 and get the fix like a charm.

the only problem is it can't send automatically the position to the the server...

in the other hand, a force update is working too

Re: Configuration MIO A701 with GPS ?

Try it with GID enabled on COM4, only way to get it working.
