Problems with the 'New' Version.
I've upgraded to 1.52 off the website a week or so ago, but have come up against a few issues:- I'm running on WM6 (fresh install) but have also run it on WM5 and saw the same problems.
1) The software still randomly crashes on exit and wont exit gracefully. 2) On this version, rather than caching the log data if there is no network connection, the program will just stop refreshing and the counter will stick at zero. If you click on Rate/OK then the counter will restart and continue until the next time it looses a network conenction. 3) If the application loses window focus, e.g. if TomTom is started, then the same problem as item 2 persists. However, if I run TomTom as a background application and just listen to the vocal instructions give, Reperion will run happily as a Foregound app (except where item 2 applies). 4) I've installed one of the other versions from JSP and that seems to work ok. The landscape option on this build is ok, but everything is too bunched up. However, I do prefer the button layout on this version.

Please state your device brand/model and OS version (about screen would suffice) and the exact name of the cab file you used.
1) The software still randomly crashes on exit and wont exit gracefully.
How do you exit ? Via the EXIT icon, or do you press the X sign in the right top corner ? Also, are you trying to exit when there's still a connection going for an update or upload of a picture? How often does this happen out of 10 times? 2) On this version, rather than caching the log data if there is no network connection, the program will just stop refreshing and the counter will stick at zero. If you click on Rate/OK then the counter will restart and continue until the next time it looses a network connection.
The program will still store data in the LOG file if there is no connection, however we increased the timeout before the soft. decided to store the position locally. Please observe patience, sometimes PocketReperion seems to hang for more than 10 seconds. We will improve, but generally, this behaviour should not have influence on the GPS track and positions. Still, GPRS networking, and especially devices that switch betweeen UMTS and GPRS are prone to have more problems. I flashed my QTEK9000 and my TyTn to WM6 to see if we can reproduce.
3) If the application loses window focus, e.g. if TomTom is started, then the same problem as item 2 persists. However, if I run TomTom as a background application and just listen to the vocal instructions give, Reperion will run happily as a Foregound app (except where item 2 applies). That's a nasty and odd one... I personally switch between Reperion and TomTom all the time, successfully. Reperion will work in the background just fine when TomTom is on my display. Vice Versa same story.
4) I've installed one of the other versions from JSP and that seems to work ok. The landscape option on this build is ok, but everything is too bunched up. However, I do prefer the button layout on this version.
Which version are you reffering to in the first place (build and device/model version) and what version does work OK for you now ?
Please confirm if you now use Reperion sucessfully. We don't want anyone to fail. We will help !

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
I'm using a T-Mobile Ameo (aka HTC Athena/Advantage aka Dopod U10000) with a fresh WM6 install. Once again, I will confirm that the same problems existed in WM5, so its either an incompatibility with the device, or slight glitches in the app. 1) I generally use the Exit button on the menu bar - although I sometimes use the 'X' button as well. It will crash either way. It will also crash whether an upload is happening or not. I would say that between 50%-70% it would crash. I should also say that the programme would crash about 50% on the previous version (1.51 I think) with similar aspects. 2) I've noticed that there is a delay during the upload, however I've tried leaving it for upto 20mins before giving up - all to no avail. On the previous version and my current working version, it does log the location and uploads it as soon as the network connection can be remade. 3) Once again, seems to be something strange with the 'new' version. Loss of focus=loss of upload. A strange one. 4) The version that is currently working for me is from http://jprestonsystems.2mydns.com/reperionDash.cab (found by clicking the Download latest version from the help menu within the App). As an aside - I like the way this is setup to locate pictures/video/audio much easier. The version which is causing me issues is Version 1.52, The cab I installed was from the URL sent out the other week in the message box (www.reperion.com/newclient or something like that) and the filename is WM2005_152.cab and comes in at 743.4k. Let me know if you need me to do any other testing, I'm more than happy to help out for the funky app!

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hello,
I'm Johan Panny from brussels in Belgium. I started to use reperion and i was very glad to see all functions. But i recognise the same problems as elnumbre. When the application looses its focus on screen (by switching back to the tomtom application) of even receiving a telephone call, the tracking stops at counter 0. And then it's very difficult to restart. A normal stop and restart does not help. The counter counts back down to 0 and then stops. And this for half an hour. I remarked this while driving on the highway.
And the log function never functionned. I did never have the ability to store records, even not when there was a connection. and neither when the application hang on counter 0.
I'm using a goldfish (Eten) X500 with internal GPS receiver and tomtom version 5.21. The gps receiver is shared on com port 4 (hardware port) and com port 2 (software port). Reperion is configured on com port 2 and gets the fix very quickly. The tomtom application is linked to the AGPS receiver as defined in the Eten machine.
Can you help solving this problem. If the application can run in background, it would be very great.
Thanks a lot.
Johan

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
It's me again,
I was wrong about the version i'm using, it seems to be the Version 1.50. I'll first try the latest version and then reply with the actual state of the problems.
best regards.

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hello Mike,
I'm Johan Panny. I already posted a message yesterday, but was not sure about the version which caused troubles. I did an upload from the lateste version from within the help on my pda (Eten Glofish X500) and tested it afterwards, but with the same problems. The application hangs on counter 1 or 0 after another screen takes the focus. The problems remained. Is there already a solution for these problems?
Thanks a lot and best regards.

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hi there Johan, The version I'm currently using is version 1.51 which seems to be more stable that 1.52 or 1.52.5 . It will RARELY crash on exit now (1 in 10 times) but all the other functionality seems to be working as expected. I did find 1.52 more stable than 52.5 but 1.51 is even better. Hope that helps! Nick,

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hi Nick,
I just viewed your message. Thanks for your help. The version 1.51 you talk about, will she continue to send data even if turning in background, without focus or sceen in foreground? And another problem I had in the latest version was that logging was impossible. I could set the log on, but it always crashed on counter 0. This is very usefull when doing long trips on holiday and thus saving all storing points to upload at a time a cheaper internet connection is possible.
I'll try to find out where i can find this version 1.51 and I will test it out. By the help screen, the download of the latest version is not version 1.51.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
The "log" screen does have a new field where the user can enter a location for the log file (positions.log).
You can enter \StorageCard\My Documents\ or just \My Documents\
If you are having problems:
1. If you are upgrading from a previous version, delete the old reperionsave.txt file and re-configure
2. Check the syntax of the path. It must have a trailing "\". So "\My Documents" wont work, but "\My Documents\" will work.
thank you Jeff for your invaluable support

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hello Mike,
I tested the location with the trailing \ it was there already, and it didn't work. And the pogram is still not running in background. can you give me a hint for a stable version running in background and eventually saving the settings to a log file? I'm leaving on holiday and I would like to test it during the holiday. We are making a trip through Schotland. Thanks for your help.

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hi there Johan! The version I'm using is http://www.reperion.com/newclient/SmartPhone_LandScape_2005_Dash.cab with my HTC Ameo. This seems to be fairly stable (only had it crash a very few times) and it does cache the files if there is no live upload available. I've had it caching upto 79 points but I suspect there is a far higher limit.
Enjoy Scotland! El Numbre.

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hey El Numbre,
I want to thank you for the information. I installed it and everything works fine. It's great. The log works, the connect works, the activity in background works. Everything just fine.
For other users trying to install this version, a little hint. I first copied the url of the cab-file, but that didn't work. I had to copy only the part before the name of the cab file. I then arrived on a screen with all available cab-files. I selected your cab file there and installed it on my PDA. I first thought it would not work on a pda, because it is the version for a smartphone. I installed it under WM5 on a Eten Glofish X500 and perfect.
I think I will enjoy my holidays and I will register our trip for the family at home. It will be great.
Thanks a lot.
Johan

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
Hi
I have similar problems, I have an O2 xda Orbit on which WM5 1.52 Reperion ran ok. I upgraded to WM6 a few days ago and it appears that there is a problem with the config relating to com ports. Now when I start up the program I get a notification and the Reperion Globe symbol at the top of my display. When I try to start the program from my "start" menu, it will not work. It seems that the built in gps sensor is not communicating with my PDA. On the new WM6 menu there is new icon for "external" gps and you can select "none" and no com ports are set up.
Can anyone help me? If I have to I will go back to WM5 to keep Reperion working. How can I go back?
thanks for any help
cheers
daryl

Re: Problems with the 'New' Version.
In WM6 (and to some extent, WM5) The GPS Settings tool allows you to create virtual com ports linked to your hardware GPS device. This allows you to hook multiple GPS apps into the GPS signal. This is how I get Tomtom and Reperion to play happily together. On my Ameo, my GPS 'hardware' port is com1, baud rate 115200 and I've configured my 'program' port to be Com1. Also, it is set to manage gps automagically. I suspect it may be a case of having a tinker with the settings to see if you can get them talking - the XDA developers may be able to assist with settings e.t.c if you have a search over there. Good Luck!
