    First impressions

Well, I've now been using the Reperion service for over one week and it's time to write of my experiences. I bought a Holux 236 satellite receiver on eBay from a HK-based retailer and soon after I received it realised that there were possibilities beyond simply in-car navigation. Searching the web for ideas I stumbled across the Reperion site and decided to try it out. It was easy to download the clients for WM5 mobile, WM5 Smartphone and for Symbian and to install them on my devices: SPV c700 (otherwise known as HTC Meteor), iPAQ 3870 and Nokia 6630 (AFTrack, in this case). Similarly registering for the service and configuring the applications was straightforward. Mike activated my account within minutes and also sent a friendly message!

Of course it wasn't all plain sailing. I like to run several applications (e.g. Reperion client, TomTom, Memory-map) concurrently on my devices, all using the GPS feed. I have installed port splitters on the iPAQ ( this excellent free one http://www.gpsmeter.com/) and on the c700 (demo version limited to 2 virtual ports here http://www.eltima.com/products/serial-splitter-mobile/ ). Although this arrangement is working on both devices, it's a little fiddly to set up and I can't say I fully have the measure of it yet. Needless to say, not a shortcoming of Reperion, more the working of WM5 and the port splitter and my devices and my own understanding!

Another thing I haven't worked out yet is how to reply to messages received on my Smartphone from other Reperion users; is this possible?

I am impressed and delighted with the capabilities that the Reperion service brings together: the integration with on-line mapping, the map view on the device, the configuration options. It just works so well! Thank you Reperion team!!
